The Glory of Fags (2024)

(FULL POEM)

The Glory of Fags

Are we that shameful,

tap dancing in the dim lavatory?

What between us is a wall and

a glory hole.

It's not just once that you peek,

stick lips,

sometimes thrust from behind,

then walk out unbothered.

So casual yet the pounding's hard.

The disembodiment is your lover,

as you dangle and tangle.

There you are,

with your sweet castration,

your thick atrophy,

blowing out muddy smoke.

"That's a nice fag."

The burning buzz craves another pack,

so you'll never quit smoking.

Outside the stall,

we lit up the tobacco once more.

Orally we are intertwined,

while normally aren't.

Fags are fags.

Cigars are cigars.

And the rest is butt.

We don't say much

about inhaling or spitting,

swallowing or exhaling.

How to write a confessional poem

without mouthing the rod out loud?

All the cigarettes of the world are burnt

and will always be burning

into the white thickness of the glory hole.
